Frequently Asked Questions - Artwork
Artwork / Framing / Commissions / Payment / Delivery / Returns Policy
Are all the pieces of artwork you sell original/hand painted?
Yes . Unless specifically stated, all the artwork sold by us is 100% original and hand painted.
Do I receive any documentation when I purchase a piece of artwork from you?
Yes. A Certificate of Authentication/Proof of Purchase document is provided with every piece of artwork purchased from us.
What type of canvas is used?
Generally the canvases used (stretched or box as indicated) are vegan friendly, unbleached cotton canvases stapled to a sturdy wooden frame for support and are acid free and pre-primed with gesso, ensuring that the colour is held on the surface and will not seep through.
What mediums are used in the artwork?
Unless otherwise stated, all our pieces of artwork are created using acrylic spray-paint or a combination of this and standard acrylic potted paint.
Can I see additional photos or a video of a particular piece of artwork that I am interested in purchasing?
Yes. Additional photos or a video of the artwork can be provided upon request. Please email us in advance with details of which piece(s) you would like to see more of!
Is the artwork protected with any kind of lacquer or varnish?
Unless otherwise stated we do not tend to protect the artwork in this way as we have encountered issues whereby the product used has reacted with the original paint application. In addition to this, we feel that the shiny/glazed surface can also detract from the original artwork - so unless specifically requested we do not apply any top coat protection (lacquer or varnish).
The canvas on which my artwork has been painted is slightly bent or uneven.
Unfortunately, although great care is taken to avoid using distorted canvases in the first instance, the application of numerous layers of paint, coupled with the retraction and expansion during hot/cold environmental pressures can occasionally result in an element of “bowing” within the wooden supporting framework of the canvas. This is a common and somewhat expected/accepted occurrence where original artwork painted on canvas is concerned.
The colours in the painting I purchased do not look like they did on the website?
Occasionally colours can look different on a computer or phone depending on the screen resolution and display settings. If you believe the colours vary considerably to those expected, please email us immediately upon receipt to discuss and keep all original packaging in case the item needs to be returned.
Will purchased artwork be signed?
All artwork sold by us will come signed on the back of the canvas by the artist unless otherwise stated (or requested at time of ordering).
Do I receive any fixtures or fittings to hang my unframed artwork on the wall?
No. We do not provide any wall mounting fixtures for unframed canvases purchased from us.
Are prints of the artwork available to purchase?
We prefer to sell unique, original artwork but may occasionally release limited edition prints of specific (unsold) pieces.
Can I view the artwork in person prior to purchasing?
This will depend on your location but if local to us (Orpington, Kent) this can be arranged. Please email for details.
Do you only sell artwork painted by AJ Douglas?
Primarily the artwork sold by us is created by AJ Douglas but occasionally we may add pieces by other upcoming artists to our sales catalogue. Unless specifically stated, all artwork for sale on the website has been created by AJ Douglas.
